Herbarium Mid City Grand Opening: A Celebration of Freedom, Equity & Community on Juneteenth

This Juneteenth, Herbarium will proudly open the doors to its newest location in Mid-City, a Black and woman‑owned cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles. We had a conversation with Brittani Arceneaux, the co-owner of the establishment, and she gave us insights on her journey and what Herbarium represents. If you want to learn more about the ethos of Herbarium, its place in uplifting the community, and what to expect from this grand opening, Britt lays it all out for us.

What sets Herbarium apart isn’t just the quality of our products, it’s the energy and intention behind the space. We’re here to create access, education, and opportunities. This is about more than sales, it’s about building something that reflects and serves our people.

From Social‑Equity Applicant to Dispensary Owner

Britt’s journey began with the City of Los Angeles Social Equity Program, designed to help communities impacted by the War on Drugs gain access to legal cannabis opportunities. The program offers various financial, legal, and business resources to support applicants and licensees on their entrepreneurial journey.

For me, this wasn’t just a business move, it was personal. Our communities have paid the price for cannabis criminalization, and now we deserve a seat at the table.”

However, it wasn’t all cookies and cream, as there were many challenges along the way. One of the biggest ones was finding a partner and investor, especially for an LA dispensary.

A lot of social‑equity applicants have been taken advantage of in this process, signing away control or getting locked into deals that don’t truly benefit them. I was intentional about who I partnered with. I found someone who believed in me and shared the same values around ownership, equity, and giving back.”

Why Juneteenth Matters

Juneteenth commemorates the day enslaved people in Texas finally learned of their freedom in 1865. For Britt, tying Herbarium’s grand opening to this holiday carries deep meaning.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress. It’s about honoring where we’ve come from and where we’re going, not just as business owners, but as a community.”

By opening the doors on Juneteenth, Britt frames Herbarium as part of a larger freedom narrative where ownership, education, and wellness converge. The symbolic opening on Juneteenth celebrates taking back ownership and leads the path of progress for the community.

What to Expect at the Grand Opening

If you plan to stop by, bring your friends and your curiosity. Britt promises “good vibes, music, local vendors, food, giveaways, games, and an overall experience that reflects our culture.”

Expect live DJ sets, neighborhood artisans, flavorful bites, and special product drops. And expect a community that comes together.

Beyond Products: The Herbarium Difference

Herbarium offers a curated menu of flower, edibles, vapes, and accessories, but Herbarium is more than just a Los Angeles dispensary.

What sets Herbarium apart isn’t just the quality of our products, it’s the energy and intention behind the space. We’re here to create access, education, and opportunities. This is about more than sales, it’s about building something that reflects and serves our people.”

It’s clear that Herbarium is about community, uplifting others, and building each other towards our best selves.

Looking Forward: A Vision of Empowerment

The grand opening is only the beginning. Here’s what you can expect in the future:

  • Launching Herbarium’s own product line that centers wellness and craftsmanship.

  • Creating local job pathways—especially for fellow social‑equity applicants.

  • Mentoring new entrepreneurs so others can navigate licensing and investment with confidence.

“Always bet on yourself,” Britt advises. “Everything you need is already in you.”
